Time to go back into the lab to dissect George Harrison's 1987 single, "When We Was Fab" from the Cloud Nine album. This song looks back at the Beatles in a variety of interesting ways, and leaves the listener with many feelings about what George thought about his "Fab Gear" days. Enjoy!

Episode 161: Our "Best of the Beatles Anthology" sets!
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
How do you condense 6 CDs of the Beatles Anthology material into one? We take that challenge by creating our "best of" Anthology, making our own 80-minute CDs from the famed 1995-96 sets of outtakes, rarities, alternate versions, live performances, and new songs.
We also discuss the Anthology in general, the production and song selection choices, what we were doing when the sets came out, and much more. If you want to listen to each of our CDs as playlists, here they are:

With Cirque du Soleil in the news recently for reasons brought on due to the pandemic, (impending bankruptcy), in this episode we decided to discuss the soundtrack to their 2006 production Love, which has been performed at the Mirage in Las Vegas for 14 years now!
How does the soundtrack work and how was it created? What do we think of mash-ups, and the song decisions made by George and Giles Martin? Unfortunately, neither of us have either been to Vegas or seen the show, so we stick to a discussion of the music.
What do you think of the production and the musical soundtrack? Let us know at our email (ivegotabeatlespodcast@hotmail.com), on Facebook, or on Twitter (@ivegotabeatles).

We've been waiting for this one! Check out our episode about McCartney's 1984 flop movie, Give My Regards to Broad Street. Does the movie have a plot? How is the music? What's with the costumes and dream scenes? Does the movie deserve its terrible ratings and reputation?
We also discuss some recent Beatles news including the new release date for Peter Jackson's Get Back movie, as well as the new reissue of Flaming Pie.
Here's the link to the Broad Street album on Spotify:

Episode 158: The "Butcher Cover" and "Yesterday and Today!"
Friday Jun 05, 2020
Friday Jun 05, 2020
After getting lots of requests for us to discuss the American albums, here we are with an episode about 1966's Yesterday and Today! The album is most famous for its "Butcher Cover" showing the Beatles surrounded by disembodied babies and slabs of meat, but we also discuss the album itself. American listeners would have been treated to hearing three songs off the Beatles' upcoming album Revolver in advance of that album's release, as well as two Ringo songs on one album! This will be the first of what we hope will be future discussions about American Beatles albums.

In this episode, we discuss the Beatles' trip to Australia and New Zealand in 1964, covering such things as: Jimmy Nicol, rainy weather standing in clothes from Hong Kong, press conferences, and the setlist from the filmed gig in Melbourne. This was at a high point of Beatlemania, where the group was in good spirits and playing well, and the fans all came out for the shows.
Thanks to our listeners in Australia and New Zealand who helped with information about these gigs!
Here's a great performance of the Melbourne gig that we discuss:

In this episode, we go back into the lab to discuss both sides of Ringo's 1971 single: "It Don't Come Easy" and "Early 1970." The A-side became one of Ringo's biggest hits and most identifiable songs, and the B-side can be seen as an open letter to his bandmates and what he hopes will happen after their breakup.
As before, we've made a Spotify playlist that contains most of the cover songs discussed, as well as the two songs under the microscope:

Thanks to everyone who sent in questions for us to answer -- we had a great time answering them! We talk about how we got into the Beatles, our favorite B-sides, why Chris doesn't (or does he?) like "The Word," and so much more. Enjoy!
